Welcome!
I am a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience as a therapist. Anxiety, depression, OCD, family/relationship/work difficulties, and struggles with adjustment to major life changes are issues I have extensive experience and expertise working with - especially with late adolescents and young adults - from my long career in college student mental health. I served for 21 years as a university counseling center director, and in 2024 I received a Lifetime Achievement Award from AUCCCD. I also have specialized training to work with OCD and related disorders, from being affiliated since 2001 with a group practice that is a regional leader in treating OCD. Whether you are an older adolescent, young adult, or older adult who struggles with these issues, I would like to help you make positive changes in your life, and help you to feel better.
APPROACH TO THERAPY
We are all human, with a unique life story and many strengths. However, our past and current experiences can also cause anxiety, sadness, and difficulties in day-to-day life. I am an integrative therapist, which essentially means that I am flexible in how I work together with my clients to plan what will be most helpful, given their unique needs. I often use the overall approach of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which emphasizes how changing habits of thinking and behavior can positively impact how we feel, and help resolve problems in living a fulfilling life. I strive to build a strong relationship in which my clients feel accepted, valued, and understood, because a good working relationship with a therapist is a key element of therapy being successful - whether a therapist uses CBT or any other style of therapy. My clients have described me as warm, approachable, and engaged. In addition to helping my clients understand themselves better, I also like to focus on practical, tangible changes that clients can make in order to improve their lives.
LOCATION OF PRACTICE
I offer both telehealth and in-person appointments. My Silver Spring, MD, office has ample, free parking, and is a short bus ride from the Silver Spring Metro station. I’m licensed in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia, and because of my PSYPACT credentials, I can see clients via telehealth in most U.S. states and territories.
FEES
Specific fee information about my practice can be found at the bottom of this page in the “Services” section. I am considered an “out of network” provider by insurance plans. If your insurance plan offers coverage for out of network providers, I can provide you with documentation to seek reimbursement.
NEXT STEPS
Please email or give me a call if you would like to talk about working together. I would be happy to schedule a free, 15-30 minute consultation appointment by phone or Zoom. If we decide together to move forward after that, I will send you some paperwork and we can schedule an initial appointment. Thank you for considering me to be your therapist. I look forward to hearing from you!
